While the nation is naturally consumed with the coronavirus here at home, it is important to note that the crisis has not prevented President Trump and his generals to continue wreaking death and destruction in other parts of the world.
A good example is Somalia. Yes, Somalia, the country that was featured in the 2001 movie Black Hawk Down, about U.S. servicemen who were ambushed and killed back in 1993 in Mogadishu, Somalia.
You read that right. With the full support of the president who campaigned on a platform of ending the Pentagon’s “forever wars,” U.S. troops are back in Somalia today intervening, bombing, shooting, and killing people.
What’s their justification for their interventionism? They are killing members of the Shabab, which, according to the New York Times, is the largest and most active affiliate of al-Qaeda.
Al-Qaeda? I remember them. Aren’t they the ones that carried out the 9/11 attacks almost 20 years ago? Isn’t that why the Pentagon invaded Iraq and Afghanistan — to defeat al-Qaeda? Isn’t that why they killed Osama bin Laden in a raid in Pakistan? Isn’t that why they have been waging a “war on terrorism” for the past 20 years?
You mean to tell me that they still haven’t defeated al-Qaeda and won the war on terrorism? How long will be it before they win this endless war?

The perfect racket

Soon after the 9/11 attacks, I wrote that the war on terrorism was going to last even longer than the war on drugs, which has lasted for decades. Have I not been proven right? That’s because their foreign interventions, which kill people and destroy their countries, produce the anger and hatred that manifests itself in terrorist retaliation.
Then, when the terrorists retaliate, the Pentagon and the CIA say that the terrorists are coming to get us, which they then use as the excuse for killing more of them over there, which then generates more anti-American terrorism, which then is used as the excuse for more intervention.
It really is the perfect racket, a racket that ensures that the U.S. national-security establishment and its army of “defense” contractors continue receiving ever-increasing amounts of tax-funded largess and that they continue their exalted position within the federal governmental structure.

The cause of anti-American terrorism

According to the New York Times, two Shabab operatives were recently arrested while taking flying lessons. Sound familiar?
Recall that when the 9/11 attacks occurred, U.S. officials immediately went on the offensive and claimed that terrorism had finally arrived in the United States, sort of like a virus, and that it was all because of hatred for America’s freedom and values.
But it was a lie, just as the rest of the U.S. government’s interventionist foreign policy is based on lies. The truth, as Ron Paul pointed out in that now-famous presidential debate, was that they came over here to kill us because the U.S. government had been over there killing people. That includes not just the 9/11 attacks, but also the attacks that preceded it — e.g., the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center, the attack on the USS Cole, and the attacks on the U.S. embassies in East Africa. It also includes the post-9/11 attacks, such as the Fort Hood killing and the Detroit would-be bomber.
Of course, that’s not what interventionists wanted to hear. They wanted people to buy into the “freedom and values” rationale so that they could use the 9/11 attacks to generate even more interventionism so that they could have an endless threat of anti-American terrorism to justify their ever-increasing largess and power.

Military empire and intervention

Ask yourself an important question: What in the world are those U.S. troops doing in Somalia, a country that is 8,000 miles away from the United States? The Shabab is not threatening to invade the United States. They don’t have hundreds of thousands of transport ships and planes and millions of troops crossing the ocean to come and take over the reins of the federal government and force us to learn Sharia law. They are nothing more than a ragtag Third World group that is fighting to win a civil war in Somalia. What business is that of the United States?
Gen. Stephen j. Townsend, the head of the Pentagon’s Africa Command, told a House committee, “Shabab is a very real threat to Somalia, the region, the international community and even the U.S. homeland.”
Africa Command? Why in the world does the United States have an “Africa” Command? I wonder if Africa has a North America command.
And a threat to the U.S homeland? Oh my gosh! Does this mean that the Muslims are coming to get us again in order to fulfill their centuries-old quest to establish a worldwide caliphate in which we are all required to memorize the Koran? ‘
No, surely Townsend is not saying that the Shabab is coming to invade and conquer the United States. Presumably, he is saying that they are going to initiate terrorists attacks within the United States.
But what Townsend and his fellow generals just don’t get is why the Shabab is attacking U.S. troops over there and threatening to kill Americans here at home. No, it’s not because they hate America for its freedom and values. It’s because the Pentagon is over there, butting its interventionist nose where it doesn’t belong — in another nation’s civil war, just like it did in Korea and Vietnam, where the Pentagon sacrificed more than 100,000 American men for nothing.
If the Pentagon were to come home and leave Somalia to the Somalians, there would be no more attacks on U.S. soldiers in Somalia and no more threats of anti-American terrorism from the Shabab.

Trump has been a disaster

President Trump’s three years in office have been a disaster. Despite his campaign promise to end America’s “endless wars,” he had done the exact opposite. Not only has he permitted the generals to maintain their death machine in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and Somalia, he is also doing his best to start a new endless war against Iran.
In the process, Trump is permitting the generals and their vast military industrial complex to maintain their powerful and lucrative position within America’s federal governmental structure.
Moreover, need I mention that the Pentagon’s war machine is a major contributing factor to the impending bankruptcy of the American people owing to Trump’s out-of-control federal spending and debt?
Donald Trump has proven to be nothing more than the continuation of the Bush-Obama administrations. It is now clear that America could have elected Hillary Clinton and the result would have been no different.
